Long ball leads Maple Leafs over Majors
The Toronto Maple Leafs used the long ball in the seventh inning to pull away from the London Majors 11-5 Sunday during Intercounty Baseball League action Sunday at Dominico Field at Christie Pits.
Aidan McAskie started the big inning with a two-run home run, while Garrett Takamatsu added a three-run shot during a six-run inning. Garrett Takamatsu added another RBI to lead the way.
The Majors were able to muster five runs on seven hits, with Cris Ruiz having two of those.
Maple Leafs starter Jesse Hodges pitched five solid innings to get the win. He gave up one run on five hits, while striking out four.
Anfernee Benitez was tagged with the loss.
Panthers pounce Baycats
The Kitchener Panthers wanted to make sure they had a happy drive home on Sunday.
The Panthers pounded out 21 hits en route to a 14-2 pasting of the Baycats at Vintage Thorne Stadium during Intercounty Baseball League action.
After a tight four innings and the score tied 1-1, the Panthers pounded three home runs and six runs in the fifth inning. Raul Gonzalez started the hit parade with a three-run home run, while Lucas Wilson also went yard. Marcel Lacasse then had a two-run shot to put an exclamation mark on the inning.
The Baycats managed eight hits, with Royce Ando hitting three of those.
Jacob Douglas got the win on the mound for the Panthers, pitching six innings. He struck out four, and gave up two runs on seven hits.
Juan Benitez took the loss, striking out four in four innings of work.
Royals and Cardinals washed out
With the rain in the area, Sunday’s Intercounty Baseball League game between the Guelph Royals and Hamilton Cardinals t Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium was cancelled.
A rain date is to be determined.
