Royals edge Majors

LONDON – Conner Morro’s two-out single in the top of the eighth inning scored Brendan Keys for the go-ahead run as the Guelph Royals hung on for a 3-2 win in London on Wednesday night at Labatt Park. 

Morro and J.D. Williams each finished with two hits and an RBI, while Brendan Keys drove in a run.

Claudio Custodio (3-0) went six innings for the win. He allowed a run on four hits with eight strikeouts and four walks. Yuki Narita struck out three over two scoreless innings for his first save. 

For London, Cleveland Brownlee and Daniel Battel drove in a run apiece. Andrew Lawrence had two hits and scored. 

Owen Boon (3-4) suffered the loss, striking out six and walking two over six innings. He scattered two runs on seven hits. 

Guelph improved to 17-22, and London fell to 13-25. 


Baycats move into second-place tie

BARRIE – The Barrie Baycats moved into a second-place tie with Kitchener following a 9-2 win over Brantford on Wednesday night at home. 

The game was initially scheduled for Aug. 3 and was suspended in the first inning due to weather. 

Barrie outhit Brantford 12-5 and took advantage of three Red Sox errors. The Baycats improved to 25-14 and sit four games back of the pennant-winning Welland Jackfish. 

Brantford fell to 8-29.
