Moretto, Deans Named B45 Baseball IBL Players of the Week

The Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) announced its B45 Baseball Players of the Week for July 17 to 23, 2023.

Welland Jackfish infielder Steven Moretto (New Westminster, B.C.) earned Batter of the Week honours, after a productive 6-for-11 (.545) week in which he homered twice and led the league in both RBI (8) and slugging percentage (1.182).

Moretto's performances helped the Jackfish to a perfect 3-0 week; the former five-year starter at Sacramento State is now hitting .316 on the season with a team-high seven home runs.

Guelph Royals right-hander Brandon Deans (Mississauga, Ont.) was named Pitcher of the Week, following a five-inning shutout performance against Toronto on July 22.

Deans, formerly of Division-I Oakland University (Minn.) and more recently the 2022 OCAA Pitcher of the Year at Humber College, struck out six batters while allowing just one hit in Guelph's extra-inning victory.
