TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club (@iblmapleleafs) announced today the re-signing of shortstop Jose Vinicio for 2023.
Vinicio a native of Santo Domingo, DR, returns to the Leafs after hitting .267 in his first IBL season. Vinicio hit 1 homerun, drove in 22, and stole 27 bases. He also played great defense and had a great playoff run hitting .333 with 2 home runs and 9 stolen bases in 13 games.
"Jose is one of the finest defensive players the IBL has ever seen. His internal clock to know how much time he has is amazing and he makes everything look so easy" said Maple Leafs General Manager, Jeff Lounsbury. "As the season progressed his offensive numbers got more impressive and I think we will get a major uptick in production. Also, with talking to the veteran players it was obvious that Jose brought a lot of intangibles to the clubhouse as well."
Jose played nine years in the minor leagues, making it as high as AAA for 88 games. He had over 500 hits and 100 stolen bases in the minor leagues before joining Toronto last season.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a member of Canada’s best league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year-old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
