Make it 10 in a row for the Fish

By ROD MAWHOOD

The Welland Jackfish (10-2) won their tenth straight game with an 8-5 victory over the (7-6) Kitchener Panthers.

"Definitely a great run we're on right now, never anticipated that in this year's IBL," said Jackfish Manager Brian Essery minutes after his club's latest victory.

"The league this year is really tough."

Hogan Brown led the Fish at the dish with three hits and four RBI including a go-ahead three-run double in the sixth inning.

The Virginia Beach native is now hitting an unconscionable .488 on the campaign.

"Hogan Brown has been unbelievable this season, on both sides of the ball. His defense is also tremendous," Essery said.

Welland had to persevere after starter Jake Harford left in the third inning when he suffered an upper-body injury after throwing a pitch.

"All or our pitchers were great tonight," said Essery who also added Harford's injury appears to be muscular at this point, and that the club hopes he can return next week.

"We have an excellent bullpen, we have confidence in all of them."

Welland now welcomes the Guelph Royals for a Sunday Father's Day matinee matchup. First pitch flies at 1:05. It's also Jackfish Drink Koozie Giveaway for the first 500 fans through gate.
