IBL ROUNDUP: Two-run seventh lifts Royals past Leafs

GUELPH – Two runs in the seventh inning lifted the Guelph Royals to a 4-2 win over Toronto on Saturday night at David E. Hastings Stadium. 

Malik Collymore went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and sacrifice fly for the Royals (19-21). Darius Barlas scored the winning run in the seventh on a passed ball. Owen Ellis had the other RBI. 

Yomar Concepcion (6-6) struck out four over two scoreless innings for the win. Yuki Narita picked up two strikeouts in the ninth for his second save. Hector Yan started for the Royals and lasted five innings, giving up two runs on three hits with five walks and six punchouts. 

Leafs’ starter Wilgenis Alvarado went six innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Julian Tymochko took the loss, giving up two runs in 1.1 innings. He walked three and struck out one. 

Offensively, Dan Marra and Jordan Castaldo drove in the Leafs’ runs. Toronto dropped to 19-20. 


Schulefand does it all in Majors’ win

WELLAND – Jordan Schulefand did it all in London’s 8-5 win Saturday night in Welland. 

The Majors’ left-fielder went 4-for-4 with three singles, a double, RBI, two runs and two steals. Daniel Battel and Brett Graham each had two hits and drove in two and Starling Joseph added an RBI.

Pedro De Los Santos (1-4) struck out eight over six innings for the win. He allowed four runs on seven hits with a walk. Wilbur Martinez earned a three-inning save, his first of the season, giving up a run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  

London improved to 15-25. 

Sam Cawker hit a solo home run for the Jackfish (30-11). Ethan Hunt drove in a run on three hits, Gianfranco Morello went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run and Tyler Dupuis singled three times, scored once and stole a base. 

James Bradwell (4-1) was touched for six runs (five earned) on eight hits over 4.1 innings. He walked two and fanned four.
