Yan sharp in Royals' win
HAMILTON – Hector Yan tossed 6.1 scoreless innings and struck out seven to lead Guelph to a 7-0 win Monday night in Hamilton.
The Dominican righty (4-3) scattered three hits and walked seven, which was plenty good enough for a Royals’ offence that had 17 hits. Reliever Brandon Deans escaped a two-on, one-out jam in the seventh and stranded the tying run on deck to earn the save. He struck out four in 2.2 innings.
Frankin Torres drove in four on two hits for Guelph (16-10). Conner Morro and Ashton Patterson each had two hits and an RBI, Brando Leroux drove in a run, Andy Leader went 3-for-5 with two runs, J.D. Williams singled four times and Ethan Hammond added a pair of hits.
Hamilton had four singles and dropped to 12-17. Brandon Nicholson walked twice and stole his 14th base of the season.
Rich Corrente (0-1) took the loss after giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits over 3.2 innings. He walked one and struck out three.
