HAMILTON -- The Brantford Red Sox scored twice in the top of the 11th and held on to beat the Hamilton Cardinals 5-3 Tuesday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
Colton Fountain scored the winning run two batters into the decisive inning, and Matthew Pilarczyk added some insurance with an RBI soon after as the Red Sox moved to 2-6. Gianfranco Morello and Fountain had Brantford's other hits, and Jacob Reid had the Red Sox's other RBI -- a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the ninth to cap a three-run rally before Hamilton tied it in the bottom half of the inning to send it to extras.
Mackezie Major threw two innings of shutout relief for the win. Jacob English started and whiffed one over five hitless innings.
Austin Wheeler drove in two of Hamilton's three runs, while Justin Gideon had the other RBI. Tristan Osika went 2-for-4.
Spencer Bak took the loss, allowing a run on one hit with two strikeouts in the 11th. Matt Duffy started and threw 7.1 innings of scoreless, two-hit ball. Duffy struck out 12 without issuing a walk.
Hamilton dropped to 5-5.
