Jackfish Sign Dominican Catcher for 2020 Season

WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) announced today the signing of Dominican catcher Luis Bernardo Lopez for the 2020 season.

Bernardo Lopez, 32, joins the Fish after completing the 2019-20 season with the Estrellas de Oriente of the Dominican Winter Baseball League, Dominican Republic’s top professional league boasting many current MLB players.

Signed by the Baltimore Orioles during the 2006 season, Luis spent six seasons in their minor league system, reaching as high as Class A Advanced with the Frederick Keys.

“Luis will be a great addition behind the dish this season” said Jackfish General Manager Jason McKay. “Luis possess a plus arm and is known for his game calling ability following playing in the Dominican’s top league and the pro level. We are very excited to see what he can do in the IBL.”
