Jackfish Re-sign four arms for 2021
WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish are proud to announce the return of Jackfish pitchers Casey Howard, Chris Boatto, Rich Corrente and Tyler Wood for the 2021 season.
Howard, a 5-foot-11, right-hander, re-joins the Fish for his fifth season of IBL baseball and second in a Jackfish uniform. In 2019, Casey recorded a 3.64 ERA with 22 strikeouts and 15 walks. The Brantford, Ontario native also suited up for the Burlington Herd and Brantford Red Sox through his IBL career.
Boatto, a 6-foot, southpaw, enters his fourth season in the IBL. In 2019, Chris recorded a 3.19 ERA with 26 strikeouts and 11 walks during 36.2 innings of work. The Maple, Ontario native pitched for Alderson Broaddus University where he recorded a three-season total 4.01 ERA with 110 strikeouts and a record of 13-7.
Corrente, a 6-foot-2, southpaw from Chatham, Ontario, enters his sixth season on the bump. In 2019 Rich recorded a 3-2 record with 18 strikeouts. Rich was named to the 2017 Intercounty Baseball League Second Team All-Star squad.
Wood, a 5-foot-10, Niagara Falls native, enters his third season in the IBL. In 2019, Tyler recorded six strikeouts over 17.1 innings in relief work.
The Welland Jackfish are a member of Canada’s best league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The over 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
