BRANTFORD - The Brantford Red Sox, members of the Intercounty Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of Zach Lampreia for the upcoming 2021 season.
Zach is a 26-year-old infielder from Toronto, Ontario. A graduate of the Toronto Mets developmental program, Zach also played for Team Ontario in the 2012 Canada Cup, and previously appeared in the IBL in 2014 with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Zach began his collegiate baseball career with Allan Hancock College, earning Second Team All-Conference honours in his freshman season with a .320 batting average and leading the team with 41 hits and 19 RBIs. He then moved onto Midway University where he posted a .292 batting average for the Eagles over 93 total games and 236 plate appearances. He also made 10 pitching appearances, logging a 3.78 ERA with 13 strikeouts over 16.2 innings pitched.
Zach also played for the Thornhill Reds in the Greater Toronto Baseball League from 2017-2019, winning a GTBL Championship in 2018. In 2019 he posted a .365 batting average over 63 at-bats in 20 games played. He also pitched 15 innings over 8 appearances with a .060 ERA and 12 strikeouts.
Brantford Field Manager Matt McGovern notes that "Zach is going to be a very important addition to our roster this summer. He has a very high baseball IQ and plays the game with passion. Zach takes a lot of pride on the defensive side of the ball and makes hard plays look routine. He is going to be one of the best if not the best shortstop in the league."
McGovern adds "Zach is the type of player that absolutely loves the game of baseball and will do anything for his team. The amazing fanbase that Brantford has will absolutely love watching Zach play, and should be very excited about the product we are going to be putting on the field!"
