Baycats move into second-place tie
BARRIE – Barrie moved into a tie for second place after a 7-3 win over Kitchener on Thursday at Vintage Throne Stadium.
Nolan Machibroda hit a two-run home run for the Baycats (904), who trail Welland by 1.5 games. Machibroda’s blast in the fourth inning tied the game and started a stretch of five straight Barrie runs.
Carson Burns drove in two on two hits and also had three of Barrie’s seven stolen bases, Noel McGarry-Doyle and Noah Hull each had an RBI, and Tyler Plumpton singled twice and scored twice.
Cesar Rosado (4-0) went six innings for the win. He allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Juan Benitez registered the final nine outs for the three-inning save. He gave up a run on three hits and two walks.
Raul Gonzalez hit a solo home run for the Panthers (3-11). Blake Jacklin singled, scored and swiped three bags.
Pedro De Los Santos (1-2) was pulled with one out in the sixth after yielding five runs on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.
